  • Hat tip to @patrickrhone and whomever else I saw mention Highlighted the other day — this is a very cool app for taking digital notes on physical books, it’s made an indie dev, and I can definitely see cool ways to fit this into my workflow.

    Thanks, fellow book nerds! ❤️🛠️🤓📚

  • “Yeah, it’s efficient, but where are the unhinged Hunter S. Thompsons of the world?”

is a good question for creators to keep in mind. 🔖💬

  • Life still counts if you don’t record it

When I see posts about how folks have been blogging for 20 years, or have a decade’s worth of hard copy journals lined up on a shelf–

One thing I always need to remind myself is, your life still counted even if you didn’t record it.

That’s not to detract from others’ achievements, or the value they get from blogging or journaling. It’s to assuage my own guilt and envy that I haven’t produced such artifacts of my own existence.

On the small scale, this is one reason I got rid of my Apple Watch: because I didn’t like the itchy feeling that even my exercise, the very steps I take, don’t “count”, aren’t real in some way, unless they’re recorded somewhere.

That isn’t true. Recorded life is great… but it still happened to you, regardless.

  • Another thing for which Micro.blog is giving me a renewed appreciation: my Keyboard Maestro shortcut for quickly turning a site’s title and URL into a Markdown link! ⌨️🤓

  • My favourite thing about ooh.directory thus far is it cheerfully categorizes blogs like the essential kottke.org - home of fine hypertext products as “Uncategorizable”. ❤️

  • Ok, doing this: I set up @danj@feed.danj.ca as my Mastodon proxy name, and now I can follow peeps on Mastodon from Micro.blog!

Next question: If I put that “proxy” name in my twitter bio, will those Mastodon friend-finders locate me? 🤔

  • Respect for a recipe site that has a button up top letting me jump down to the recipe, because they need the 8,750 word story about cauliflower soup for SEO, but understand that I just want to know how many tablespoons of cumin go in. 😏👨🏼‍🍳🍲

  • Noticed how negative many of my recent posts on here are. I’d like to turn that around.

I mean, this ain’t twitter, after all.

  • After not reading it in months, it was a happy coincidence to be reminded of Daring Fireball’s existence today.

I can’t really stand the sheer quantity of depressing shit in the world, but at least this particular bit of depressing shit has a nice upside. ✌🏼
